Hello!
There have been several actual requests for blog postings while we take what Robert is calling our "Western Loop" trip, and as they make a great souvenir -- I figured I would! So...here is the plan!
We are driving and picking Mom up in Seattle, and then heading across the Olympic peninsula to Port Townsend. We will catch the Black Ball Ferry there, which will deposit us right in downtown Victoria, right in front of the Empress Hotel. We have rented a two bedroom condo for 10 days. The condo is located on a street directly behind the Empress, which will provide us with great walking access to Beacon Hill park as well as all the shops and restaurants in the immediate downtown area. We have spent a fair amount of time in Victoria over the years, as it's one of Mom's favorite spots, and we hope to revisit some old favorites as well as explore some new places. As always Butchart Gardens will definitely be on the agenda. Then, we will drop Mom back in Seattle and head south -- with a few days in the California wine country, as well as a few days in San Francisco! We are very much looking forward to stopping at Nepenthe for lunch (or dinner or both!) in Big Sur, and hope that we have good weather along the way! (The forecast for Victoria isn't really much higher than 65 degrees, so we'll see; that's definitely unseasonably cool for early September!)
